About Us

Who are we?

Children in one of our homes

World In Need is a Christian charity. We exist for Practical Mission; that is, as disciples we help the poor, the sick and those in need of education, then after them having experienced God’s love for them, we give them the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus, to know Him more and develop a relationship with Him as Lord and Saviour of their lives.

World In Need was founded in 1991 and works with all who need Practical Mission, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or gender.

Where do we work?

We currently work in eleven countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. These are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Sierra Leone.

Our Strategic Aims

Worshippers in Thailand

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

We aim for: discipleship of those we serve that every man, woman and child that we serve would have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and enter into a relationship with Jesus, and be disciple on an ongoing basis.

Then the King will say to those on the right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:34-36)

Feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the poor. We serve those less fortunate than us with the knowledge that hidden amongst them are those that Jesus is calling to discipleship. We will invest in finding them by meeting their practical needs, showing them God’s love and telling them about Jesus.

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added

to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46-47)

Equipping communities of believers and strengthening the church. To grow sustainable communities of believers amongst those we serve that grow in faith together and worship God.

“So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:11-12.)

Helping individuals and institutions engage in global mission. We will promote global mission opportunities through World In Need to UK and international individuals, churches, schools, and Christian businesses.

Who do we work with?

Our leader in Uganda

The people who head the work in the field are all handpicked by us and we are fully assured of their suitability and qualifications for the work they are doing, and of their personal and professional integrity. They are all disciples of Christ, and eager for others to hear of Him.

All our workers and leaders are indigenous to the countries where they work. This means they know and understand, in ways no-one from outside can ever truly manage, the hopes, culture and needs of those they serve and can thus tailor the work to ensure it is of greatest benefit to the highest number of people.

What do we do?

Through Practical Mission we work to support people in a variety of ways, depending on what they need most.

  • sponsor individual children and families, to ensure their well being and give them a good start in life.
  • we support schools and children’s homes, ensuring children grow up safe, well cared for and able to fulfil their true potential
  • build wells to give whole communities access to fresh, clean water,
  • empower woman through co-operatives, education and apprenticeships, so they may support themselves and their families and lift themselves out of poverty,
  • build and support churches so that people can come to know Christ where they previously had no opportunity to do so.

Unwanted Shares

You can get rid of these charitably by donating them to ShareGift (registered charity 1052686), an independent charity which specialises in accepting small holdings of shares, particularly those which are not worth selling because that would cost more than they are worth. ShareGift distributes its funds to other UK charities and over 1,000 UK charities have already benefited, including World In Need.
