We are delighted to share the success story of Kalekidan Alemu, an Ethiopian graduate who has been part of the World in Need Sponsorship Programme since the age of five.
Growing up in a government housing project with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters, Kalekidan faced significant challenges. Her mother, who is deaf, was unable to work, placing financial strain on the family. To help make ends meet, the older children contributed by making and selling Injera, the local bread.
Despite having poor eyesight, which made learning difficult, Kalekidan was steadfast in her efforts to learn. She worked hard to complete her lessons, refusing to let her vision problems hold her back. As she progressed through school, she developed a keen interest in business, driven by a desire to create a better future for herself and her family.
This passion led her to Winget Community College in Addis Ababa, where she pursued a course in Marketing Management. Throughout her studies, Kalekidan particularly enjoyed learning about customer relations and effective communication—key skills for building a successful business.
Now, after 17 years of sponsorship, Kalekidan has proudly graduated at the age of 22 with a qualification in marketing management. This remarkable achievement marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her life.
We wholeheartedly congratulate Kalekidan on her success and pray for a bright and fulfilling future as she embarks on her journey. May she continue to inspire others with her resilience, ambition, and hard work.
