Make a difference to the children at our school in Kenya

What and where is the need?

Our school in Soy in western Kenya has over 400 pupils. The dining hall has never had any tables or benches for the children to use when eating their school meal.

Why is this a pressing need now?

The children stand to eat as the floor is dusty, or they sit outside on the grass, but this cannot happen when it rains.

Why are WIN best placed to tackle this need?

WIN has supported Nancy George Academy since the start and have partnered well with WIN supporters over the years. WIN representatives have visited the school and have seen the problem first hand.

What will be the benefits of your work?

The school will be properly equipped to provide a good environment for pupils to eat together.

What is the impact if we don’t do this now?

The children will continue to eat on their laps and standing up, rather than comfortably at a table.

Why should people care about this?

Because it’s for the welfare of the children. The food will be protected from dust and other airborne diseases.

How do you ensure success and accountability?

Nancy George Academy has a committee which oversees the budget and procurement. It will be supervised by the school Director and visitors from WIN UK. Photos can be emailed and visits can be made to verify that the money has been used appropriately. The tables will be 8ft by 2ft with standard height, the benches will be 8ft by 1ft. They will be constructed of hard wood and steel for longevity.

How much does it cost?

We need to raise £2400, which will buy about 24 sets of tables with two benches each.
