Change in ministry and schooling brings challenges

World in Need Kenya works through three key ministries in its community: the church ministry - Hosanna Community Fellowship; the Bible school - Soy International Bible Institute (SIBI); and the Nancy George Academy, which provides education to elementary school-going children. Being a Christian institution, the Nancy George Academy has won many hearts within the community and is currently the private school of choice in this area.

The church ministry is very active with a number of branches, two being in the city of Nairobi. A new branch will be opening deep in the beautiful Uasin Gishu County, in the west of the country where there is currently no church in the area.

Soy International Bible Institute is running the World in Need Discipleship Course alongside its normal courses, providing a busy and challenging timetable for the staff. The course has proved very popular and currently has 59 students, of which 14 are pastors, 42 are church leaders, and two are regular church members. If you would like to consider supporting the running costs for these courses more information is on our Discipleship Course Appeal page, where you can learn more about what the Discipleship Course provides.

The Primary section of the Nancy George Academy closed from 23rd November to allow the pupils in grades 6 and 8 to sit their National Examinations in peace and quiet during December. There has been a change in Kenya's education system as the government seeks to get more children into education and raise the quality of the education across the country. This has changed the curriculum and the requirements for the facilities that need to be in place. This provides challenges and a great increase in expenses for the schools themselves. The Nancy George Academy is required to install new laboratories before the end of the year in order to keep its operating licence. The changes have had in impact on the number of children that the school has too, with the numbers currently down from 600 to 410 pupils. The Academy staff are placing this burden in God's hands and trusting that He will provide for the children and families that the school serves.

World in Need would greatly value your prayers for our Global Family in Kenya for the following:

1) Pray for the children of Nancy George Academy who are going to sit for the national examinations in the month of December, that the efforts of the staff and children will be rewarded with peace during the exams and good outcomes in the results.

2) Pray for our Global Family Leader, Pastor Robert Mulumbi, whose left leg is swollen and hampering his movement, causing great difficulties for him. His blood pressure is high and so far, not responding positively to the medication. Pray that the Lord works in Robert's body for the eradication of any infection and inflammation, and reduces the blood pressure through His merciful healing grace.

3) Pray for the provision of funds to construct science laboratories and two classrooms for the incoming Junior Secondary school classes. So far the school doesn't have the money and they are not sure if their license will be renewed come next year, 2023.

4) Pray for the country of Kenya. More than 5.1 million people are facing starvation. There is scarcity of food right now. The food shortage is also affecting the school Feeding Programme at Nancy George Academy.
