Following the unrest in Bangladesh and the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, an interim government has been formed in Bangladesh led by the 84-year old old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. This has brought some stability to the country amidst a fragile political environment following violent unrest.
Our Global Family Leader, Pastor Alfred Biswas, reports that the Bangladeshi situation has improved somewhat and that he will be travelling throughout Bangladesh in December and January for a two-month mission trip. We pray for a blessed and safe trip for Alfred and his family, who will be travelling with him.
Alfred updated us on the dangerous situation in the country, "The children in the Home of the Champions (children’s home) are doing well, even in these circumstances. As you know, the Bangladeshi prime minister resigned on 5th August and flew to India. After that the fundamentalist muslim people burnt many Hindu and Christian's houses. They took their businesses, land and cattle, etc. Some of our church families were also affected with this. They have taken one of our Pastor's land."
The situation for those in the southern part of Bangladesh became more desperate when catastrophic, massive flooding took place from monsoons in September. Alfred explained, "People lost their houses, crops and cattle. We have supported 150 families with rice, potatoes, cooking oil and salt."
Alfred went on to to share the plans for Christmas saying, "We are planning to support 300 of our church families with food items and in addition, some families will be given goats and cows."
We give thanks for the work that our Global Family is doing in Bangladesh and pray for their safety and that God will use them to bless those in need.
